When it comes to the hobby there is not a lot that beats the excitement of finishing a 36 man Napoleonic unit. So when I finished this unit last week I just stared at them for an hour enjoying the moment. Now they have marched into a customized IKEA box waiting for battle for a long time probably.
As I've said in a previous post these are part of a long term project that, with little modifications such as a flag swap, covers the 1800-1808 period.
Again, these Eureka figures are excellent and include some nice dynamic poses. The bayonets proved a challenge in basing as I wanted them to be able to represent different formations. So all bases (30x40) are marked underneath now with instructions where to put them in which formation. I've never been so organized I must admit. Flag is from GMB Designs.
Next week Salute! Hope to see some of you there at the Blogger meet up. Details can be found on Ray's bog here.
Terrific Mike!!!

If it wasn't for the fact that I really, really don't like painting Naps I would follow your project with some units of Russians or Austrians, but helas mon ami. Excellent painting and basing !!!
ReplyDeleteDommage, we need to plan another game soon Rene. And May 5th we have an ACW game planned so if you can make it...
DeleteMike, please post some pisc of your coming ACW game. The Naqps look GRREEAAAT.
DeleteAnd I've just had a second look and they're just superb. The guy in the 3rd row on the last picture is excellent !!

Thx Pat!
DeleteThey are stunning Mike,
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you doing Naps. I like your thinking about when we finish painting a unit. I spend a wee while with my wee men when all the basing is finished. I'm half way through a hussar regiment and it has taken me an age.
Cheers
Paul
You have every right to proud of them Michael as they look magnificent!! I too like to take a few moments and look over a finish unit before photographing and placing them in the display cabinets.

These look fantastic. Great job.
ReplyDeleteA fine looking unit Mike!!! Love the Grenadiers at the back. You must be doing something right affording to buy all these Eureka figures!!
ReplyDeleteFantastic job on the Eureka French! Very handsome unit.
ReplyDeleteI agree! After painting a block of troops there's nothing like sitting back and enjoying the moment. Congrats! They look fantastic.
ReplyDeleteSuperb early French battalion Mike!
ReplyDeleteVery classy!
ReplyDeleteDamn good work Mike, hope to see you next Saturday?
ReplyDeleteMagnificent work Michael (love all those bicornes)! A unit to take great pride in. Perhaps one day when Sarah and I retire to Europe we will be able to combine our collections for a proper mash-up. BTW we use 30(w)x50(d) bases to help avoid the march attack crowding and charge engagements lock-ups and it seems to work quite well.
ReplyDelete...and you guys have a great time at SALUTE! We'll tip a glass to the three of you here from Canada.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sight to behold Michael, terrific job Sir. Looking forward to catching up next Saturday.
ReplyDeleteNice work! I wouldn't want to be the British facing these guys.
ReplyDeleteStunning painting Mike !!!!!
